Guy Judge

Welcome to my Home Page.

I work in the Department of Economics at the University of Portsmouth where I am Deputy Head of Department and Principal Lecturer in Quantitative Economics and Computing. On this site you can find

Research

My main research interest is in applied time series econometrics, particularly relating to the use of Structural Time Series Models in modelling energy demand. A list of recent papers can be found here

Teaching

Currently I teach the following units on the Economics undergraduate degree programme at Portsmouth On the Economics postgraduate programme I teach the unit I also teach the unit Internet for Business Economists [IfBE] on the Business Economics and Computing degree at the University of Surrey.

I also have a number of blogs relating to the subjects that I teach.

There is now quite a lot of online video material that can be used in learning and teaching economics - I have a page with links to some of it.

Office hours

My office hours for this semester are Tuesdays 14.00-16.00 in RB 6.12. Students taking the Econometric Analysis unit will find me in the coffee bar in the Portland building on Wednesday at 11 am (immediately after my lecture with them). I shall also be in the Portland coffee bar after my Statistics and Mathematics for Economics lecture at 12 noon on Mondays. To view my full timetable for this semester click here

Computing in Economics

My book "Computing Skills for Economists" is available from John Wiley & Sons. You might still be able to get hold of my earlier book "Quantitative Analysis for Economics and Business: Using Lotus 1-2-3" published by Harvester Wheatsheaf in 1990.

Other interests

My main non-academic interest is football. I have been a fanatical supporter of Watford Football Club since 1958. Over fifty years of loyal support!

I enjoy music of many types, but especially folk music. My favourite artists at the moment include Cara Dillon, Eliza Gilkyson, Lucy Kaplansky, and Karine Polwart.

These, and other afflictions my wife, Pauline, suffers (but not in silence!). But she does enjoy travelling, especially our regular visits to Greece and South Africa.
