The Slavonic and East European Mediæval Studies Group

The Slavonic and East European Mediæval Studies Group was formed in 1974 by a group of British mediævalists including Anne Pennington, Robert Auty and Dame Elizabeth Hill in order to provide a means for all with an interest in the Middle Ages amongst the Slavs and elsewhere in Eastern Europe to meet informally and to exchange views and information relevant to this study. At present the group has over sixty members in Great Britain and abroad. It meets twice yearly, usually on the Saturday nearest to Martinmas and on a Saturday in the second half of March; in recent years meetings have alternated between Oxford, Cambridge and London. Three or four papers are normally read at each meeting. A quarterly bulletin is also circulated to members.

The group has reciprocal arrangements with the Early Slavic Studies Association in the United States, providing for the exchange of information and for members of ESSA to attend meetings of SEEMSG as members when in Britain and vice versa.

Please note that the Chairman is currently on sabbatical and unable to update the webpage. For up-to-date information please contact the Secretary/Treasurer.

A small amount of financial support is available to enable postgraduate students to attend meetings.

Because of the heavy cost of posting the Bulletin, members who receive paper copies but have access to e-mail are urged to give the Secretary their addresses, so that future Bulletins can be sent electronically.
